Thought piece Thursday #48 - The 1% margin in all areas of your life

Imagine today that you could click your fingers and improve every part of your life by 1%. If you had 1% more wealth, were 1% fitter, able to spend 1 more % time with your family. You would probably call the person who told you this a liar. While unfortunately or fortunately we're not able to magically click our fingers and make as of this happen, there are steps that you can take.

Creating the 1% margin in your life

There are 3 straight forward but not easy steps you can do to create that 1% improvement in your life.

  1. Decide your priorities
Unfortuantely you probably aren't going to be able to imrpove your diet, finances, relationships all at once. We're all given the same 24 hours and based on this we then decide our priorities or are at least given the option to choose our priorities. Once you're clear on this where possible and we mean 99% of the time have the power to say no to other things. While this is going to be a massive challenge for all of us, the results and rewards have to be significant enough for you to stick to it
  2. Create the habit that will produce the result
Once you've decided what is imporant and what your focus for the next week, month or year is, get clear on which habits are going to help you to create the result. If you aren't sure start your research through Google or YouTube. Look towards people have already produced the results that you are looking to achieve while bypassing others that may not have the knowledge or expertise to do so
  3. Track and adjust
Probably the most important part aside from getting started is understanding how you are performing and if the goal you set 12 months or 5 years ago still matters. Generally you would want to do this at least once a quarter and once a month is closer to ideal. The massive benefit of this is that you can see all of the progress, reflect and celebrate your results (which is the fun part right?)
Unfortunately this is not magic although as the great Bill Gates says "Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years."

What areas of life are you looking to implement the 1% rule?
